A few yogi friends of mine and I got curious about Yoga Makaranda and decided to find it. After a long and hard search for it, we did find Yoga Makaranda. Along with that we also happened to find Yogasanagalu. Both these books are written in Kannada. I happened to leave a comment on a yoga blog about it. Little did I know that I would be flooded with requests for copies of those books. So, I want to leave a note on my blog that I will not be posting those pictures here in this blog or will be mailing the copies of these books to anyone. I am sure KYM or some organization will publish those books if so many people are interested in it. I do not want to disrespect any copyrights that come with these books. If I find time, I will write a Wikipedia article for these books.

The 1st chapter of Yoga Makaranda was translated to french and published in a magazine named “darshanam” in 1995. This magazine no longer exists. It was translated from english. The article was signed TKV Desikachar. This 1st chapter is about cakra-s and the 8 anga-s of yoga.

Thought I would post that there is serious controversy over this work (the KYM “translation”) as there are massive sections of it that were plagiarized and stolen from the original translation done by Nandini Ranganathan and her mother Laksmi Ranganathan in 2006. I plan to put up the original version for free download on my website very soon. I would encourage all not to buy the KYM version and support this violation of copyrighting, deceit and theft. cyberyogi, thank you for posting the link to the pdf file. So far I have read only the first chapter. It is a very good translation of the original. I am enjoying reading the English version. I hope to read Desikachar’s translation too, but I am not in a hurry.
A formal “apology” was issued by KYM but I am skeptical. Honestly cyberyogi, you don’t want my official comments on this public website. In essence, I think Kausthub is an utter sham of a yogi and that is putting it mildly. He is a pale shadow of his grandfather.
I take offense to comments from someone like Matt Huish about respected Yoga teachers like Kausthub Desikachar, who have been in the world of yoga for generations.
Matt himself has cheated his former partner Jody Kurilla, in Portland and ran away to New Mexico, to avoid legal repercussions.
Is he not a sham and a shame himself?
And I think it must be worth considering if free distribution of copyrighted matter (Copyright of Yoga Makaranda is with Desikachr and his family) is an offense in itself. So I suggest people like Matt to remove this content before some legal repercussions catch up with him and his cronies.
