At first our understanding is at a superficial level. In time, comprehension becomes deeper. And, finally the understanding is total. There is pure joy in reaching such a depth of understanding. For then the individual is so much at one with the object that he is oblivious to his surroundings.
Frequently we are able to understand the superficial and the obvious elements. But, comprehension is incomplete until our perception is at the deepest level.
When a tourist looks at a new place, the most obvious things about a place can be known in a real short time. But, a deeper understanding of a place is possible only when one stays put at a place and gets to observe the intricacies and the subtle experiences. One moves from a gross outer level to the deeper. Only over time a person can get to understand their true selves and this happens step by step.
